MOSCOW, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- An increase of Russia’s internal consumption should compensate falling coal exports this year, Deputy Energy Minister Sergei Mochalnikov said in a conference on Friday.
"Production decreased by less than 1% in the first eight months of 2022, and exports fall now. But this contraction is compensated to a large degree by higher demand on the internal market, which has grown by more than 7 million tonnes since the beginning of the year," he said.
In 2021, Russia was the third largest exporter of coal in the world, with its share in the global coal exports reaching 17%. Currently, the Russian industry has to solve the task of redirecting exports to the markets other than the E.U., which banned the imports starting from August, he said.
